Beautifully dyed porcupine quills tacked onto pellon around a gem, the design is outlined with rhinestone. These earrings are backed with fingernail posts and glitter vinyl fabric, finished with silver lined beads.
Measurements : about 2.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
