Quilled Hair Barrette - Purple
This unique barrette is made with dyed porcupine quills wrapped around a strip of rawhide, sewn onto leather with sinew.
Barrette is just over 3 inches long and just under .5 of an inch wide.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
