Porcupine Quill Earrings - Double Diamonds Red
Porcupine Quill Earrings - Double Diamonds Red
Beautifully dyed porcupine quills wrapped on rawhide, finished with nickel plated earring hooks.
The bigger diamond is just over an inch wide and about 1.5 inches tall. The smaller diamonds are just over half of an inch wide and under half an inch tall. Total length of earrings are about 2.5 inches.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
