Porcupine Quill Earrings - White Drop Hearts
Porcupine Quill Earrings - White Drop Hearts
Beautifully dyed porcupine quills wrapped on rawhide, finished with ball and spring earring hooks.
The heart is just under 1 inch wide and tall. The small slab is just over an inch tall and about a quarter of an inch wide. Total length of earrings and hooks is just over 3 inches.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
