Beaded Hoops With Quill Strip - Yellow Earrings
Beaded Hoops With Quill Strip - Yellow Earrings
These unique earrings are beaded with size ten beads on a memory wire. The slabs are made with rawhide decorated with woven porcupine quills, finished with nickle plated earring hooks. The hoops are just over 1.75 inches in diameter, the quillwork is just under 1.5 inches long.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
