Beaded Hoops With Quill Spiral Earrings - Red
Beaded Hoops With Quill Spiral Earrings - Red
These unique earrings are beaded with size ten beads and different size faceted beads on a memory wire. The spirals are made with wire covered with woven porcupine quills, finished with nickle plated earring hooks. The hoops are just over 2 inches in diameter and spirals are a little over 1.75 inches long.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
